Where the tow calls come from in Cary

What the driver does when he gets there

He calls you when he’s a few minutes out, so you’re not guessing. He looks at how the car is sitting and what’s wrong before touching it: a car in gear with a dead battery, a locked steering wheel, an EV with no power, or a car nosed into a ditch each need a different approach. On the flatbed he winches the car up the bed on its own wheels or on dollies, then straps all four corners; on the wrecker he lifts from the manufacturer’s tow points, never the bumper. He takes a photo of the car loaded and a photo of it delivered, and texts them to you. If you’re not riding along, he can leave the keys with the shop and check the car in for you. That photo-and-text update shows up in a lot of our Google reviews, because nobody likes wondering where their car is.

Towing after a crash in Cary

If police are on the scene, the officer may call the rotation wrecker, or you can request your own tow — you’re allowed to, and it’s often cheaper than the storage lot. Tell us the location and whether the car rolls; a crash with front-end damage goes on the flatbed. AWD, electric, lowered and classic cars

All-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive vehicles (Subarus, most SUVs and crossovers, many pickups) can’t be towed with two wheels on the ground without damaging the transfer case — they ride the flatbed. Electric vehicles are the same: no neutral tow mode on most of them, so they go on the bed, and the driver knows how to put a dead EV in transport mode or use the manufacturer’s override to get it rolling. Lowered cars and classics ride the flatbed with wood under the bed’s lip so the front lip never touches. 3. On a highway, get as far right as you can, hazards on, and stay in the vehicle with your belt on. In a lot, wait somewhere safe. The driver calls when he’s close.

Mistakes that cost time on the shoulder

• Not knowing where you are. Before you call, look for the last exit number, a mile marker, a cross street or a business sign. On US-1 in Cary the exits are 101 (Walnut St/Buck Jones Rd), 99 (Cary Parkway) and 98A (Tryon Rd).
• Guessing the vehicle. “An SUV” doesn’t tell us whether it’s all-wheel drive. Year, make and model, and whether it rolls and steers, gets the right truck the first time.
• Trying to drive it “just to the next exit.” A car with no oil pressure, a pinned temperature gauge or a flat tire doesn’t make it, and the repair gets bigger. The tow is cheaper than the engine.
