When you call WTF Towing in Cary, you get a locally owned crew that answers 24 hours a day, three trucks built for different jobs, and help that ranges from a jump start in your driveway to a flatbed run across the state. This post is the plain recap: every service we run, which truck shows up for what, where we go, and what to have ready so the call goes fast.
If you have been reading along this fall, you have seen posts on US-1 breakdowns, lockouts at Fenton, EVs on the flatbed and holiday travel. Here it all is in one place, so you know exactly who you are calling before you need to.
Who we are, and where the trucks start
WTF Towing is a locally owned towing and roadside assistance company based in the Cary–Morrisville area. We are not a call center that farms your job out to whoever is closest. When you dial (919) 230-4498, you are talking to the people who run the trucks.
We are licensed and insured: USDOT 4241594, MC 1642674, with $1,000,000 in liability coverage. That matters more than it sounds. It means the company hooking your car is registered, carries real coverage, and can legally haul your vehicle across state lines if the job calls for it.
Our home turf is towing in Cary, NC and next door in Morrisville. From there the trucks run US-1, US-64, NC-55, NC-540 and I-40 every day, which puts most of western Wake County within easy reach.
The towns and roads we cover
Our regular service area is Cary, Morrisville, Apex, Holly Springs, New Hill, Research Triangle Park and RDU Airport. We also run jobs into Raleigh and Durham every week.
- Cary: US-1 from the Buck Jones Rd / Walnut St exit (Exit 101) down past Cary Parkway (Exit 99) and Tryon Rd (Exit 98A), Kildaire Farm Rd, Cary Parkway, Tryon Rd, Green Level Church Rd, and the lots at Crossroads Plaza, Fenton, Park West Village and Waverly Place.
- Morrisville and RTP: Davis Dr, NC-54, NC-55, the I-40 and I-540 interchanges, and the office parks and apartment lots around them.
- Apex and Holly Springs: US-64 west of the US-1 split, NC-55 south, and the neighborhoods off NC-540. See our pages for towing in Apex and towing in Holly Springs.
- RDU Airport: terminal curbs, parking decks and the ParkRDU economy lots, where cars that sat for a week often won’t start. More on that at RDU Airport towing.
- Raleigh and Durham: I-440, I-40 toward Southpoint, NC-147 and everything in between, covered on our Cary, Raleigh and Durham towing page.
If you are searching for a tow truck near you in Cary, that list is the short answer: if you are anywhere in it, we come to you.
Three trucks, and which one comes for your car
We run three trucks, and each one exists for a reason. The full breakdown is in Meet the WTF Towing Fleet, but here is the short version.
- Ram 5500 wrecker with a Jerr-Dan wheel-lift. Lifts one end of the vehicle and tows it on its other set of wheels. Quick to hook, good in tight spots, and the truck that does most of our winch-outs and recoveries.
- Two Isuzu NRR rollback carriers with 21-foot Jerr-Dan beds. The bed tilts back, the car is winched on, and it rides with all four wheels off the ground. This is the truck for all-wheel-drive cars, EVs, lowered and classic cars, motorcycles, and anything going a long way.
Which truck comes depends on your vehicle and the situation, not on what is convenient for us. A front-wheel-drive sedan with a dead starter in a Kildaire Farm Rd parking lot is a fine wheel-lift tow. A Tesla, an AWD SUV or a car with body damage near the bumper goes on the rollback. Tell us the year, make and model when you call, and we send the right truck the first time. If you want to see them at work, our tow trucks on the job photo post has real shots from around Cary.
Every service we run
Not every bad day needs a tow. A lot of our calls end with the car driving away under its own power. Here is the full menu:
- Local towing: to your home, the shop of your choice, or a dealership service lane, across Cary and the Triangle.
- Accident towing: clearing a crashed car from the road and taking it where you or your insurance roadside plan direct.
- Jump starts: dead battery in the driveway, at work or in a shopping-center lot, with a quick check of whether the battery is likely to make it home.
- Lockout service: keys on the seat, in the trunk or locked in with the engine running.
- Tire changes: we put your spare on so you can get to a tire shop. No usable spare means a tow instead.
- Fuel delivery: enough gas to get you to the nearest station.
- Winch-outs: pulling a car out of a ditch, mud, a soft shoulder or a snowbank and back onto pavement.
- Medium-duty towing: box trucks, work vans and fleet vehicles that are too big for a car-sized hookup.
- Long-distance towing: Cary to Charlotte, Wilmington, Greensboro or out of state, on the rollback.
If you are not sure whether you need a tow or just roadside help, our post on when to call a tow truck walks through it. When in doubt, call and describe what the car is doing. We would rather talk you out of a tow you don’t need.
What the driver actually does when the truck arrives
Whatever the job, the routine on scene is the same, because it is what keeps you and your car safe.
- Positions the truck to protect you. On US-1, I-40 or NC-540 that means parking upstream of your car with the lights on, so traffic sees the truck before it sees you.
- Confirms the vehicle and the destination. Where it is going, who is meeting it, and where the keys go if no one is there.
- Looks the car over and photographs it. Existing dents and scrapes get documented before anything is hooked, and again at drop-off.
- Checks the drivetrain. AWD, EV or a car that won’t go into neutral changes how it gets loaded.
- Secures it properly. Wheel straps or wheel-lift straps, safety chains, and lights on the towed vehicle when needed.
What decides the price
We don’t publish a price list because no two calls are the same, but the factors are simple. Our full explainer on what a tow costs in Cary goes deeper. In short:
- Distance: from pickup to drop-off, and whether it leaves the local area.
- Which truck: a wheel-lift tow and a rollback job are different work.
- Your vehicle: size, weight, drivetrain and condition.
- The situation: a car in a ditch, stuck in a parking deck or blocked by other cars takes more time and gear than one sitting on a flat shoulder.
- Roadside vs. tow: a jump start, lockout or tire change is usually far less than a tow.
Call with the details and you will get a straight quote before the truck rolls.
What to do when you call: the fast version
- Get safe first. Off the travel lanes if the car can move, hazards on, and on a highway stay buckled in or get well away from traffic behind a guardrail.
- Pin your location. An exit number, cross street, mile marker or a dropped map pin. “US-1 south just past the Cary Parkway exit” beats “somewhere on US-1.”
- Know your vehicle. Year, make, model, and whether it is AWD or electric.
- Describe the problem. Won’t start, flat, locked out, out of gas, in the ditch, or in a crash.
- Know where it is going. Home, the shop of your choice, or a dealership. If it is after hours, ask the shop about their key drop.
- Call (919) 230-4498. Keep your phone charged and on so the driver can reach you.
The most common mistake we see is waiting too long to call. A car that “might” restart on a busy shoulder at night is a risk every minute it sits there. The second is picking the cheapest-sounding option without asking which truck is coming. If your car is AWD or electric and someone plans to drag it on two wheels, that tow can cost you far more than it saves.
FAQ
Are you open on weekends and holidays?
Yes. We run 24 hours a day, every day, including this Halloween weekend and the holidays ahead. Nights and holidays are when a lot of breakdowns happen, so that is when we are on.
Can I use my insurance roadside plan with you?
Often, yes. Many plans reimburse you for a tow you arrange yourself. Check your policy or call the number on your card, and ask us for a detailed receipt so you can submit it.
Do you tow into Raleigh and Durham, or only Cary?
Both. Cary and Morrisville are home base, but we run jobs into Raleigh and Durham regularly, plus long-distance runs anywhere you need the car to go.
How do I know I can trust who shows up?
Ask for credentials. We give ours openly: USDOT 4241594, MC 1642674, $1,000,000 liability. You can also read what customers say on our reviews page.
When your car makes you say WTF, you call WTF Towing. Day or night, anywhere in Cary and the Triangle: (919) 230-4498.
