Here’s what the holidays actually do to cars around the Triangle, the calls we get most between the two holidays, and how to make sure your December driving stays boring.
The December calls, in order
- Dead batteries. By far the most common. Cold mornings, short trips that never fully recharge the battery, and interior lights left on while unloading packages. If your car cranks slowly on a cold morning, that’s the warning; get the battery tested before it strands you. Our jump-start service gets you going and tells you honestly whether the battery is done.
- Lockouts. The holiday version: keys on the seat, hands full, door swings shut. The Park West Village, Waverly Place and Crossroads lots keep us busy the week before Christmas. A lockout is minutes, no damage.
- Flats. Cold drops tire pressure; a tire that was borderline in November is low in December. Add the curb at a packed parking lot and you’ve got a sidewall cut.
- Crashes. Parking-lot bumps at the shopping centers, and rear-end collisions in the rain on Cary Parkway and US-1. If there’s visible damage, take the tow — a bent part you can’t see is how a small crash becomes a big one.
- Ice. Not every year, but when it comes, the bridges freeze first: Davis Drive over I-40, the ramps at US-1 and Tryon Road, the overpasses on NC-540. We’ll do a full winter post on it; the short version is slow down before the bridge, not on it.
Five minutes that save Christmas morning
- Tire pressure to the door-sticker number, cold, including the spare.
- Battery tested if it’s over four years old or cranks slowly.
- Washer fluid full and wipers that clear the glass — December in Cary is more rain than snow.
- A blanket, a charger and a flashlight in the trunk with the gifts.

Traveling over the holidays
Flying out of RDU and leaving the car in a lot for a week is the classic setup for a dead battery on the way home; call from the gate and we’ll meet you at the car. Driving to family in Charlotte, Greensboro or the coast? We do long-distance towing on the rollback if the trip goes wrong — from a rest stop on I-40 or I-85, home to Cary, one upfront price. Is there a holiday surcharge?
No. The number you’re quoted is the number you pay, and it’s set by distance and vehicle, not the date.
Can you get my car out of a parking deck?
Yes. The wheel-lift wrecker fits where a flatbed can’t, and if the car needs a flatbed we’ll bring it to where the rollback can load.
